Two teams from the Buckingham High School FFA Chapter competed in the Youth Cattle Working Contest held in Blackstone, on April 6. Buckingham Team A consisted of Will Auten, Amanda Bryan and Daniel Wood. Team A placed sixth in the contest. Conor Bohannon, Grant Martin, and Grace Moss were members of the Buckingham Team B and placed eighth. The contest was comprised of two different parts; completing a cattle processing plan and working calves. While preparing for the contest, participants learned about cattle vaccines and how to read the labels of the medicines. Participants also had to ear-tag cattle and administer vaccines and dewormer. Safe handling of cattle and proper techniques were a part of the criteria for the contest. This contest is based around contestants learning proper cattle handling practices of the Beef Quality Assurance Program (BQA). All members had to complete the BQA program in order to compete in the contest.
