Prince Edward County High School’s varsity baseball team has delivered on the promise it showed early in the regular season by reaching the Region 2A tournament semifinals. In Monday’s quarterfinal, the No. 3 Eagles upset host No. 2 Amelia County High School 6-5. Sophomore Isaih Dailey earned the win on the mound, and freshman Mattison Kinne, pictured above from Friday’s first-round game, finished with four RBIs. Prince Edward went 0-2 against Amelia during the regular season. “(I’m) really proud of our team’s effort tonight,” Eagles Head Coach Brandon Kenny said Monday. “(We) fell behind early, battled and stayed in the game, and we were able to get a lead in the sixth and hold on in the seventh for the victory. We didn’t do a great job throwing strikes tonight, but the defense picked it up, and we got some timely hitting when it mattered.” Prince Edward won its first-round game Friday 7-6 against visiting No. 6 Bluestone High School. Kenny said the Eagles (13-8) will likely face No. 1 Goochland High School on Wednesday. The winner of the semifinal game will secure a state tournament berth.
