MAY 25

LUNCHEON PROGRAM, 1 p.m. of the Military Officers Association of America at Riverside Cafe, Farmville. Capt. Jimmy Farley, of Prince Edward County Sheriff’s Department, will discuss Project Lifesaver, a public safety program for missing persons who have wandered or become lost.

MAY 26

SIMS ANNUAL MEMORIAL, 4 p.m. at Tearwallet Baptist Church, Route 60 Cumberland. Musical performances by Denise and the Traveling Aires.

MEMORIAL DAY OBSERVANCE, 11 a.m. at Sailor’s Creek Battlefield Historical State Park. This year’s theme will focus on Thomas Garnett and “The Great War” Centennial. This is a family-friendly free event.

DEACONESS AND MISSIONARY MINISTRY, 3 p.m. at Midway Baptist Church, 837 Guinea Road. Guest choir, New Creations. All members are asked to wear a color of the rainbow. All are welcome.

FRIENDS AND FAMILY DAY, 3 p.m. at Peaks Baptist Church, 1948 Peaks Road, Prospect. Guest, United Gospel Singers, Chase City.

PREACHING, 11 a.m. at Forest Baptist Church, Meherrin will be the Rev. Curtis Hedgemen. All are welcome.

DEACON ORDINATION, 3 p.m. at Zion Hill Baptist Church for Brother Vashion Hartwell and Brother Anthony White.

2ND PASTOR ANNIVERSARY, 3 p.m. at New Hope Baptist Church, Keysville for pastor, the Rev. Vatell Allen and first lady Dianna Allen. The Rev. William Johnson from Union Grove will deliver the message accompanied by his choir. All are welcome. A meal will be served.

18TH PASTOR ANNIVERSARY, 3 p.m. at Old Green Creek Baptist Church for the Rev. Samuel Trent. The Rev. Anthony Ray of Little Union Baptist Church, Amelia, will be the guest preacher along with his choir.

MAY 28

MEMORIAL DAY SERVICE, 11 a.m. sponsored by The United Daughters of the Confederacy, Farmville Chapter 45. Guest speaker, Patrick Schroder, historian for Appomattox Historical Park. The Sons of the Confederate Veterans High Bridge Camp #1581 will take part in the program. The cemetery is located off North Main Street across the Cumberland bridge. Bring a chair.

JUNE 2

DEDICATION OF HISTORICAL SIGN, 3 p.m. for the Farmville Confederate Cemetery at the entrance to the cemetery off Route 45. Everyone is welcome.

TUTOR TRAINING, 8:30 a.m. at Crewe Library, 400 Tyler Street, Crewe, to gain ProLiteracy certification. Call (434) 542-5782 to reserve your seat.

FAMILY AND FRIENDS DAY, 10 a.m. at Spreading Oak Baptist Church in Arvonia. There will be fun, food and games. All are welcome.

30TH ANNUAL CLEAN THE BAY DAY, 1 p.m. Meet at Camp Paradise parking access. Volunteers should be prepared to walk through weeds and mud—wear work clothes, old shoes, gloves and sunscreen and bring bottled water and bug spray.

8TH ANNIVERSARY, 11 a.m. at Zion Hill Baptist Church to celebrate Pastor Leon Jackson and first lady Carolyn Jackson.

JUNE 9

2018 SAFETY AND SECURITY PROGRAM, 9 a.m. – noon sponsored by The Rocky Mount Baptist Church and the Cumberland County Sheriff’s Office to be held at the church. Focus will be mass shooting, active shooters, hostage and robbery situation, special safety procedures and much more. Wear comfortable clothes. Questions, contact Deacon Jeffrey Minter.

COMMUNITY YARD SALE, 7 a.m. – 1 p.m. sponsored by Cumberland Community Cares to support Delma’s Pantry, at 1550 Anderson Highway, behind the Cooperative Extension office in Cumberland. VACATION BIBLE SCHOOL, 6:30 – 8 p.m. at Arvon Baptist Church for children kindergarten through fifth grade. A meal will be available from 6-6:30 p.m. There will be a kickoff cookout Sunday, June 8, beginning at 5 p.m. All events are free and open to the community.

JUNE 10-14

VACATION BIBLE SCHOOL, 6-9 p.m. nightly at Cedar Baptist Church, 3932 Bell Road, Dillwyn, for ages 2 through high school. There will also be an adult class beginning at 6:15 each night. All are welcome.

FREE LAY RESCUER TRAINING, 10-11:30 a.m. at Crossroads, 214 Bush River Drive, Farmville. Learn how to respond to an opioid overdose emergency with administration of naloxone.

MONTHLY FELLOWSHIP, noon – 1 p.m. at Payne Memorial United Methodist Church. This year’s theme, “Choosing Life.” Speaker, the Rev. Lewis Brandt. All are welcome.
