Severe weather warning in effect

A severe weather warning, including a tornado watch, is in effect for the Heart of Virginia, the National Weather Service (NWS) advised.

“At 7:48 PM EDT, severe thunderstorms were located along a line extending from 7 miles northwest of Schuyler to near Centenary to Dillwyn to near Sheppards, moving northeast at 45 mph,” the (NWS) advised.

The warning cited 60 miles per hour wind gusts and to expect damage to trees and powerlines.
“A tornado watch remains in effect until midnight EDT for central Virginia,” the NWS cited.

Cumberland County has issued an emergency alert for the thunderstorm warning, asking residents to stay aware of heavy rains and winds until midnight.
