Longwood University’s women’s lacrosse team did not end the regular season the way it wanted to it, but it has enjoyed a week off in preparation for the upcoming Big South Tournament. The Lancers (7-10, 2-5 Big South) are making their sixth tournament appearance in as many seasons. This year, they hold the No. 6 seed and head to No. 3 Winthrop University on Saturday for a rematch of their first Big South match this season. The quarterfinal showdown is set to begin at 1 p.m. When the two teams met March 31, Winthrop defeated Longwood 20-13. The Lancers closed the regular season April 21 against Big South power and No. 18 nationally ranked High Point University, falling 22-2. “The game definitely got away from us today,” said sixth-year Head Coach Elaine Jones, who has led the Lancers to a Big South quarterfinals appearance in each of her first six seasons. “High Point is a very athletic and skilled team who was able to capitalize on our mistakes due to their pressure.” Playing in their last home games donning the Lancer blue and white were seniors Madison Stair, Charleigh Kondas, Riley Dolan, Andie deCelis, Hollyn Royster, Brianna Kelly and Imani West.
