Facing elimination and trailing 3-1 to rival Liberty University on Monday, Longwood University’s men’s tennis team rattled off the final three points of the quarterfinal match to claim its first Big South tournament victory in program history. By a score of 4-3, the No. 5 Lancers (13-8, 3-4 Big South) defeated the No. 4 Flames (12-12, 4-3 Big South) to advance to Tuesday’s semifinal against host No. 1 Winthrop University (12-7, 7-0 Big South) at 10 a.m. On Monday, just as he’s done so many times this season, Longwood junior Julian Farthing, right, delivered a clutch three-set win, sealing the latest milestone for a Lancer program that has taken off the past two years.
