Building relationships

Will Stewart lives and works in Farmville, having moved to the town about two-and-a-half years ago, but his relationship and familiarity with the locality extends back further.
“I have been traveling to Farmville for about 10 years now,” he said, “from either Atlanta, (Georgia), where I was born and raised or Charleston, (South Carolina), where I lived for five years with my wife Alex Snoddy.”
He noted that Snoddy was born and raised in Farmville.
“I met her at Presbyterian College in Clinton, (South Carolina),” he said.
They have a son, Baer, who is nearly 3 years old now.
Stewart, 31, said most people in the community would know him as Alex Snoddy’s husband or B.A. and David Klein’s son-in-law. However, he has worked to establish himself as part of the community in other ways as well.
His job has enabled him to network with people in the Heart of Virginia and abroad. Stewart works as a financial adviser for Northwestern Mutual.
“I help people live the life they want by helping them build and achieve financial security,” he said. “I work with a wide range of clients, from those just getting started in their careers all the way to fully retired.”
As for what he enjoys most about it, he said, “I love helping people reach financial goals and feel more secure in their future. Often times, in my line of work, people put up a wall when I reach out to offer my help. Seeing that wall come down is truly rewarding because I know I am building long-term relationships with people in our community.”
When asked to provide three words to describe himself, Stewart’s choices likely help highlight why he has found success in his career: driven, outgoing and fun.
Key to making meaningful connections and building quality relationships with people is having a positive and uplifting spirit.
Prompted to provide the secret to happiness, Stewart said, “Laughing a lot and not taking life too seriously, I try to practice gratitude daily.”
In addition to his work with Northwestern Mutual, he is a member of the Farmville Rotary Club, and he serves on the board of the Farmville Lions Club.
As for his proudest achievement, Stewart said it is “becoming a father, and becoming a husband is a close second.”
He noted that when not busy with work and community duties, “I love to spend time with my family and friends, play golf and fish.”
He said the best decision he has made in his life is marrying his wife.
“She is the reason I have the life I do, and I love my life,” he said.
