The Rotary Club of Farmville will be reinstating its pancake brunch April 21, and funds will go to support the Southside Family YMCA.

Rotary President Sue Carter said the last pancake breakfast was held April 2016. She said nearly 200 attended the previous pancake breakfast event.

This year, Carter said the club will expand the menu to offer a hearty meal for a variety of palates. The event will be held at The Woodland from 8-11 a.m.

The meal will include pancakes, gluten-free crepes that Carter said she will prepare on-site, bacon, turkey sausage, fruit salad, scrambled eggs and hash browns.

For an additional price, Carter said adult beverages such as Mimosas and Bloody Marys will also be available.

She said the event has been a success as people can travel from the pancake brunch to the Farmville Wine Festival close by.

Cameron Patterson

Carter said the club decided to have the funds benefit the YMCA as the club has helped and worked with the YMCA in the past.

“YMCA provides programs that are compatible with Rotary values, and as they are going through a big fundraising campaign at this time, we thought it would be perfect to help a fellow organization,” Carter said.

Cameron Patterson, who is co-chair of the pancake brunch event with Julia McCann, said he is looking forward to the community’s response and said the YMCA is a worthy cause.

“Our support will continue to help them spread their mission,” Patterson said.

Stephen Blewett with the YMCA said the funds from the pancake brunch would be set to go to scholarships for individuals or families who could not afford full membership. Blewett said the funds will also be distributed to the YMCA’s after-school programs and youth swimming lessons.

“We truly appreciate the generosity of the Rotary that they would be willing to host a function for us,” Blewett said. “The YMCA, being a nonprofit, we really look for community help and community support so that we can do the good work that we do.”

The YMCA recently announced a three-year capital campaign to raise $575,000. As of February, $479,500 had been pledged, Blewett cited in a previous Herald report.

“We believe their work is important to our area, and with this event, we’ll have food, we’ll have music, and it will be a great time,” Patterson said.
