County warns residents of email scam

Prince Edward County government offices have been made aware that several residents and business owners have recently received scam emails that appear to be from county officials or employees. The emails are varied and have included reminders with links to invoices and information about overdue bills that need to be paid.
Prince Edward County and the officials and employees who work in county offices do not request payments of any type via email. If you have not had specific prior contact with an office or an employee and you receive an email that includes a request for payment or invoice, do not click on any of the links in the email and delete the email promptly.
“We are currently working with our IT specialists to address any security issues within our system and to solve any issues that are found,” stated Wade Bartlett, Prince Edward County Administrator.
The following offices have been included in the possible scam:
Prince Edward County Administrator’s Office: (434) 392-8837
Prince Edward County Commissioner of Revenue’s Office: (434) 392-3231
Prince Edward County Treasurer’s Office: (434) 392-3454
Contact the offices above if you receive an email from their office that appears to be a part of the scam.
