Agrees with Wilck

Regarding the letter to editor in the Friday, March 2, 2018 edition of The Farmville Herald titled “Audit Committee Advised”, I agree with the plan put forward by Supervisor Jim Wilck.

Having attended Prince Edward County Board of Supervisors meetings for many years, it is my observation that in the past years the draft audit is returned from the audit company to the county financial folks (the county administrator), and only after the county administrator makes adjustments to the audit is the board of supervisors allowed to see the audit.

This is totally unacceptable and should disqualify the current audit company from being awarded any future audit contracts.

To leave the audit procedures as they are currently, as Mr. Wilck stated in his letter, invites the same problems that Piedmont Regional Jail is currently facing.

The purpose of the audit is to oversee how the county financial folks (the county administrator) are spending millions of dollars of taxpayer money and not a collaboration between the audit company and the county administrator.

Mr. Wilck states in his letter that at least one supervisor was opposed to having an audit committee.  As a taxpaying citizen of Prince Edward County, I have to wonder what the motive of a Supervisor would be that opposes accountability of the way that the administrator spends millions of dollars of taxpayer money.
