Rev. Robert L. Woodson Sr. went peacefully to be with his Lord on Sunday morning Feb. 18, 2018 in Stanardsville Va. He was born Feb. 25, 1929 to Joseph Wallace and Margie Southall Woodson of Farmville.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his wife of 55 years Marie Ashburn Woodson.

He is survived by his second wife, Gladys Hensley Woodson, of Culpeper.

He and Marie are survived by their 5 children, Shirley Hrebik (Karl) of Cape Coral Fla, Bob (Marion) of Ft Mill SC, Jim (Joyce) of Stanardsville , Bill (Michele) of Burlington NC, and Gary (Jackie) of Stanardsville , 11 Grandchildren, 22 Great grandchildren.

Robert joined the US Army in 1946 and served in Japan. After returning home from service, he met and married Marie in 1949 and soon after yielded to the Lord’s call to the pastoral ministry. He spent the next 50 years faithfully serving as pastor to 14 Baptist churches in VA, NC, and MD. He was a graduate of Washington Bible College and Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary.

He loved people unconditionally and was loved by all who knew him. Give a kind word or pass on a smile in his memory. His pastime love was flying and after receiving his pilots license spent much time exploring the Heavens above him where he loved to be.

Family visitation was held Thursday, Feb. 22, at Ryan Funeral Home, 12819 Spotswood Trail, Ruckersville, VA.

A funeral service will be held on Friday, Feb. 23, 11 a.m. at Swift Run Baptist Church with Rev. Buddy Woodson and Rev. Mark Holder officiating.

Interment will follow in Stanardsville Cemetery.
