Shanika Dove, a senior at Prince Edward County High School, participated in the Virginia Girls State Program, which was held at Longwood University. She was

sponsored by the Kappa Rho Omega Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated. The program is designed for students interested in learning about the government on the state and local levels. Her experiences included learning what POW/ MIA stood for (Prisoner of war/Missing in Action) and the actual meaning of it; how to work well with others, how to properly raise and lower the American flag and how to hold a position in a city/town. She was also elected as an election official at the event. Shanika is the daughter of Glento Allen and Tanya Dove and the granddaughter of Mrs. Billie Vaughan of Farmville.
