The November meeting of Redbud Garden Club was held Nov. 28 at Gail Thompson’s home with Joyce Thompson and Alice Metts as hostesses. Members traveled to Rochette’s Florist in Farmville where Sid Allen presented “Christmas Decorations.” He designed several holiday arrangements showing how the addition of different materials can completely change how the arrangement looks. He shared a few secrets including gluing a piece of Styrofoam on the bottom of a plastic floral container before putting in your Oasis if you are going to be using heavy stems such as magnolia. The stem will be anchored by the Styrofoam so it will not tip over. “The First Thanksgiving” (a design interpreting this theme) earned blue ribbons for Mary Hazlegrove and Sarah Schember with red ribbons being awarded to Dottie Fahrner, Rebecca Giles, Janet Higgins and Jo Smith. Blue ribbons were received by Liz Dunn, Geraldine Sanderson and Nancy Schaeffer for “Nature’s Way” (a design using live materials) and red ribbons went to Ann Ligon, April McBride and Sarah Schember. Nancy Schaeffer received four blue ribbons and one red for her horticulture specimens.
