New Horizon Bank is bidding a fond farewell to Aline S. Ownby, Vice President & Loan Officer, who is retiring from the bank at the end of the year.
Ownby started her banking career in 1974 at the “original” Bank of Powhatan as secretary to then president, Stan Whittaker. After 10 years, she transferred to the Cumberland Branch to take the position of Assistant Branch Manager for the same bank. While working at the Cumberland location, the bank went through numerous mergers and name changes. Ownby reminisces that from 1984 -2001, she worked for five different banks all from the same desk at the same location. Having become all to familiar with mergers, Ownby decided in 2001 to join the “new” Bank of Powhatan as a loan officer. Having performed almost every job function within the bank at some point in time, Ownby knew her real love for banking was being a loan officer. She enjoyed working with young people helping them get their first automobile loan, and also was skilled at construction and lot loans.
Happy where she was, Ownby was presented with an opportunity to join New Horizon Bank, a brand new bank at the time, as vice president and loan officer. Believing in the idea of a homegrown community bank, Ownby joined the team of experienced bankers at New Horizon.
Ownby has been an asset to the bank since joining the team in 2010, and has certainly made a difference in the lives of many of the bank’s clients with her knowledge, professional experience and know-how.
As she bids the bank farewell, Ownby is excited at the prospect of spending more time with her husband and family. “Ms. Ownby”, as she is greeted by most of her customers, has three grown boys and five grandchildren ranging in age from 11 months to 20 years old.
New Horizon invites all of Ms. Ownby’s loyal customers to stop by the bank prior to Dec. 28 to wish her well. Customers may also send cards and best wishes to Aline Ownby, C/O New Horizon Bank, 2501 Anderson Hwy, Powhatan, VA. 23139.
