Participants will be able to learn about the significance of the contested vaunted wagon bridge on the morning of April 7, 1865.

“Hear about the battle and its consequence of capture by the Union II Corps and how it unraveled Lee’s strategy of using the Appomattox River as a shield against advancing Federal forces,” the release cited.

Visitors are encouraged to bring water and bug spray. Families are welcome. However, participants are discouraged from wearing open toed shoes or bringing strollers, and they are not suited to the terrain.
