Edmunds sponsors fireman contest

HALIFAX — Del. James Edmunds, R-Halifax, is sponsoring a Fireman of the Year contest award. According to a press release, the contest will include fire
department members in Halifax, Charlotte and Prince Edward counties as well as Brookneal and Gladys. The release cited each department will pick from its membership one person who will be declared their Member of the Year based on their overall contributions to the department, and that person will receive $100 from Edmund’s campaign.
“Then, each Member of the Year will be eligible to win the overall Fireman of the Year (award) for an additional $250 and other prizes,” officials said in the release. “The overall winner will be picked by a committee based on a statement written by each club president as to why their member should be considered the Fireman of the Year.”
To be eligible, departments must submit fire department name and location, president’s name and contact info, the number of members and the year the department was established in writing to P.O. Box 1115 in Halifax, VA 24558.
