A Farmville man was sentenced to an active sentence of 25 years in jail Tuesday in Cumberland Circuit Court in connection to the sexual assault of a victim under 13 years old.
Michael Tyrone Booker received 40 years in jail with 15 years suspended for a charge of sodomy of a victim 13 years or younger, 40 years in jail with 40 years suspended for a second count of the same charge and 20 years in jail with 20 years suspended for a charge of aggravated sexual battery. In addition, he received indefinite supervised probation for all three charges and will pay $1,585 in court costs.
Two charges of indecent act with child by parent, two charges of parent violate child less than 15 and one charge of aggravated sexual battery were found to be nolle prosequi, meaning the court abandoned the charges.
Booker will also be on trial Oct. 30 in Prince Edward County Circuit Court for four counts of sodomy — two of the counts being with a family member and two with a victim of 13 years or younger — two counts of aggravated sexual battery of a victim 13 years or younger and two counts of indecent act with child by parent.
In September 2016, Cumberland County Sheriff Darrell Hodges said the allegations went back three years.
“It started in Cumberland and then continued in Prince Edward,” Hodges said in a previous interview.
