Though Longwood University’s women’s soccer team is fresh off a narrow 1-0 loss to host Virginia Tech, one of the top defensive teams in the country, it did not erase the Lancers’ historic opening achievement this year. They entered Monday’s game against the undefeated Hokies with a 4-1 record — the program’s best start since Longwood began the transition to the Division I level 14 seasons ago. Four different players have scored game-winning goals in those victories, including junior Annie Boros, pictured above, who helped the Lancers start the year right by scoring the lone goal in a 1-0 home win over Howard University. Longwood (4-2) visits the University of North Carolina at Greensboro on Friday at 7 p.m.
