The Five County Fair will open Tuesday through Saturday, Sept. 30, at 209 Fairgrounds Road in Farmville.

Fair General Manager Auburn Estes said a bicycle would be raffled off each evening of the fair, a result of donations from Walmart.

He said this year’s fair will include rides such as The Himalaya, The Super Shot and The Cliffhanger.

Tuesday at 4 p.m. will begin fair admission.

“This is all subject to change, but as of right now, those three major rides will be here,” Estes said. “If something happens in between, I’m not certain, but that’s our plan to have those rides.”

Estes said as far as the fair’s events go, they’ll basically be the same as what’s been offered in previous years.

“We have updated our website, and we’re very proud of what we have … Information that you need is on the website: www.fivecountyfair.com,” Estes said. “That is one thing that we are very pleased (with).”

According to the fair handbook, students with fair tickets get in free until 7 p.m. on Tuesday and Wednesday. Home-school students can get their school tickets at the admission gate. All college students will receive free admission Thursday with a college ID and senior citizens age 60 and above will see $2 admission Friday, Sept. 29.

The fair’s website includes information regarding rides, entry to competitions, ticket prices and ways to contact fair staff.

“I hope we will have a very successful year if the hurricane will behave itself,” Estes said.

Estes said while he feels the fair has enough volunteers, it doesn’t hurt to have more.
