Two face jail time for abuse charges

A 41-year-old Cumberland man was sentenced to 10 years in jail suspended after being found guilty on charges of child abuse in Prince Edward Circuit on June 23.

According to court documents, John Joseph Long’s sentence comes in addition to a May 23 sentence in Cumberland Circuit Court of an additional 20-year sentence with 13 years suspended after he was found guilty on two charges of aggravated sexual battery and a suspended 10-year sentence after being found guilty for indecent liberties with a child age 15 or younger.

In Cumberland, Long was also found not prosecuted on two additional charges of indecent liberties with a child age 15 or younger, two charges of sodomy with a victim 13 years or younger, indecent act with child by parent and two charges of non-forcible sodomy that were withdrawn prior to trial.

Prior to the trial, the court ordered Long to undergo a psycho-sexual evaluation, which was to be conducted by a qualified evaluator.

with child by parent and rape with a victim age 13 or younger.

She was sentenced to a total of 40 years in jail with 31 years and 10 months suspended.

April was also found guilty on charges of child abuse and assault on law enforcement in Prince Edward Circuit Court. She will serve an active sentence of six months, with a remainder of 14 years and six months suspended.
