Two youth teams from the Heart of Virginia are World Series-bound. The Buckingham County Youth League (BCYL) Majors All-Stars and the Prince Edward-Farmville Youth Association (PEFYA) Ponytails All-Stars won their respective state tournaments Tuesday night, earning the right to represent the state of Virginia at the highest level of Dixie Youth Baseball and Dixie Softball.

The PEFYA Ponytails defeated the Amherst All-Star team 5-4 in South Hill to win the Dixie Softball Ponytails X-Play state championship.

After leading for most of the game, PEFYA fell behind 4-3 in the top of the sixth and final inning. In the bottom of the inning, Kyla Edmonds was walked, Danner Allen got a hit, and they both advanced on a passed ball. Then Alani Walton came up to the plate and produced a walk-off two-run hit for the win.

Larry Conwell, PEFYA Ponytails manager, said he was happy for his players as they will head to Sumter, South Carolina to play in theĀ 2017 Dixie Softball Ponytails X-Play World Series, which starts July 29.

“They worked hard to get there, and they all played good enough,” he said. “They earned it.”

The PEFYA Ponytails are undefeated this summer, going 5-0 in the state tournament and 3-0 in the district tourney.

In the State Dixie Youth Baseball Major League All-Star Tournament in Victoria, the BCYL Majors went undefeated and claimed the state title with a 7-1 victory over the highly-respected Dinwiddie Nationals All-Star team Tuesday.

Buckingham will travel to Oxford, Alabama for the 2017 Dixie Youth Baseball Major League World Series, which begins Aug. 5. On that day, the BCYL Majors, playing as the Virginia team, will take on Arkansas at 8 p.m.
