The Prince Edward-Farmville Youth Association (PEFYA) Debs All-Star team opened its 2017 run by defeating the Lunenburg Girls’ Softball All-Stars 9-3 on Friday in the State Dixie Softball Debs All-Star Tournament held at the Dinwiddie Sports Complex.

Now with a bye Saturday, the PEFYA Debs next play at 7 p.m. Sunday with the opponent to be determined.

“The team had a great performance,” PEFYA Manager David Schmidt said Friday. “… All the pitchers were outstanding. The whole team was hitting.”

He noted the PEFYA Debs had no errors and produced a total-team effort.

They will be looking to repeat the success they achieved last year when they won the state championship and advanced to the Dixie Softball Debs World Series.
