Outdoor film series continues with ‘Ghostbusters’

Farmville’s Downtown Film Series announces “Ghostbusters,” starring Bill Murray, Dan Aykroyd and Sigourney Weaver to play Friday. “Ghostbusters” is the second film of the 20th Anniversary Season of Stars Under the Stars.

“From Ecto-1, to Slimer, to the Stay Puft Marshmallow Man, “Ghostbusters” has cemented a permanent spot in our cinematic history and was the recipient of Oscar nominations for Best Visual Effects and Best Song,” officials said in the release. “Peter Venkman, Murray; Raymond Stantz, Aykroyd; and Egon Spengler, Harold Ramis, are three academics who are kicked out of the university where they’ve been studying paranormal activities.”

The release cited after deciding to go into business ridding the city of rapidly-increasing paranormal events, they hire Winston Zeddmore, played by Ernie Hudson, to be the fourth Ghostbuster and set out to stop the cause of all the ghosts running rampant: the ancient and evil Gozer.

“The presentation will begin at dusk at Crute Stage, located on the corner of Main and Fourth Streets in downtown Farmville,” officials said in the release. “Come early for pre-show trivia and drawings. Parking is available on Main Street and in the municipal parking lot behind the courthouse.”

According to the release, admission is always free, and popcorn, candy and drinks will be available for purchase.

“Please note there is a no pets policy,” officials said in the release. “In the event of rain, the film will be shown the following evening at dusk.”

The release cited “Ghostbusters” is rated PG and may contain profanity, suspenseful scenes and adult content inappropriate for younger viewers.

“The final presentation of our season will be ‘The Sting’ on Aug. 11, starring Robert Redford and Paul Newman,” officials said in the release.
