While a cellphone tower has been permitted for construction in Cumberland County near Jenkins Ridge Road, no lease by a cellphone carrier has yet been placed on the tower, according to National Communication Towers (NCT) LLC.

The tower — which would be designed just below 200 feet tall with 4G LTE coverage output — has not received leasing documents from prospective cellphone providers, NCT Construction Manager Jamie Adams said.

The tower and its site are designed to accommodate a wide range of users, including cellular carriers, internet service providers and emergency services types of equipment, representatives from NCT said.

Adams said there had been interest from a major cell carrier in the area, but said NCT and the carrier have not yet executed a lease agreement.

Adams said NCT contacts major cellphone carriers every few weeks in the area to generate interest in the site.

A conditional use permit to construct the tower near Jenkin Ridge Road was approved in October by the Cumberland County Board of Supervisors.

The tower is zoned for development in accordance with a special use permit.
