Heart of Virginia Festival is Saturday

Do not forget the Heart of Virginia Festival this Saturday in Farmville. This is always a fun way to spend a Saturday, see friends and try different foods.

The Prospect Fire Department Auxiliary thanks all those for their support of their supper on Saturday.

Flora Bolt was luncheon guest of her daughter-in-law Mrs. Judy Bolt on Sunday following the worship service. Also enjoying Judy’s good food were Chris Bolt, Alexa Moser and Mrs. Jennifer Bolt Jones.

On Thursday, Edwina Covington enjoyed a luncheon at Charleys Waterfront Café with former teaching colleagues Brenda Kasperski, of Pearisburg, and Shirley Eye, of Fredericksburg.

At Applebee’s, Edwina Covington was the Sunday afternoon luncheon guest of Jan Belote, of Chesterfield. The former high school classmates reunited after 54 years.

Mr. and Mrs. Jeff Smith spent several days in Virginia Beach last weekend. Dining out, relaxing on the beach, shopping and attending an annual herb and plant sale all added to their enjoyable weekend away.  

Mrs. Rita Utzinger and Mrs. Pat Smith met for breakfast at Merk’s on Thursday.

Richard and Margaret Stockton attended the 2017 Community Achievement in the Arts Awards, on Saturday, presented by the Longwood Center for the Visual Arts (LCVA). The Community Achievement in the Arts Awards went to Dr. Mary Jo Stockton; business award went to Mainly Clay; organization award went to the Virginia Children’s Book Festival; Volunteer of the Year went to Dr. Alec Hosterman; Student Volunteer of the Year went to Austin Van Horn; presentation of special awards went to Gerald Spates and the Barbara Dixon Lifetime Achievement Award went to Nancy Lockwood. This was a most enjoyable program. Richard and Margaret were very proud of their daughter in-law, Mary Jo Stockton.

Friends and neighbors are praying for a speedy recovery for Betsy Faraci, Gary Fiscus, Jean P. Derrenbacker, Betty Jean Bolt and Mildred Harvey Shanks.

The members of Appomattox P.E. Presbyterian Church at Tuggle invite you to worship with them each Sunday. The Rev. Chuck Klotzberger will be the guest speaker on Sunday. The membership of Davis Memorial Presbyterian Church at Prospect invites you to come and worship with them every Sunday; Sunday school is at 10 a.m. with worship at 11a.m. Carrol Gillespie will be the guest speaker on Sunday.

Calvary Chapel-Farmville invites you to worship with them on Sunday mornings at 10:30 a.m. The congregation invites you to join them each week on Wednesday evening for Bible Study for all age groups at 7 p.m. The church is located at 302 Industrial Park Road, in the former Stackpole-Carbone building.

Prospect United Methodist Church will have its homecoming on Sunday at 11:15 a.m. Pastor John Flood, of Swain Memorial UMC, Tangier Island, will be preaching. Revival is planned at Prospect United Methodist Church beginning Monday and continuing through Wednesday. Pastor John Flood of Swain Memorial Church will preach both Monday and Tuesday beginning at 7 p.m. All Problems Solved will provide special music with Worm Patterson on Monday and Smokey Wilson on Tuesday. On Wednesday at 7 p.m., the last evening of this Revival, Pastor Billy Swan of the Dillwyn Charge will preach. The Salem United Methodist Church Choir will join Swan. Refreshments will be served following the close of the revival. All in the community are welcome to join us.
