Mary Allen Ayers, 99, of Dillwyn, left her earthly body and entered into the presence of her Lord and Savior April 22, 2017. She was born October 8, 1917.
She was a retired employee of the Dillwyn Locker Plant. She was an active member of Rocky Mount United Methodist Church.
Mary enjoyed her life — she worked hard, loved to travel, attend church and was always willing to hop in the car and ride with anyone who wanted some company. Many things brought her joy but nothing brought her more joy, than her family. She loved the birthday parties, weddings and anytime they came to visit, but especially Christmas when everyone gathered in her basement. Things might get loud and chaotic, but Mary always had a smile on her face.
Mary is survived by her husband of 53 years, Roy R. Ayers; four children, Richard Allen and his wife, Betty Jo, Gerri A. Harris, Carl “Bo” Allen and his wife, Mary and Margie A. Sams and her husband, Dave; 12 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren and 21 great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, George Thomas Allen; daughter, Doris A. Harris and her husband, Al; sons-in-law, Ernest Harris and Bobby Steinruck; and daughter-in-law, Mary Rucker Allen.
A funeral service was held on Tuesday, April 25, 2017 at Dunkum Funeral Home with interment in Rocky Mount United Methodist Church Cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Rocky Mount U.M.C. Cemetery Fund, C/O Shirley Wooten, 404 Thomas Road, Dillwyn, VA 23936.
