LYNCHBURG — State Senate hopeful Mark Peake has received endorsements from several conservative leaders, a county sheriff and county prosecutor.
According to an email from Peake, the Republican candidate has received endorsements from former Del. Watkins Abbitt Jr., U.S. Rep.-elect Tom Garrett, U.S. Rep. Robert Hurt, former U.S. Rep. Virgil Goode, Del. Matt Fariss, Buckingham Sheriff William G. “Billy” Kidd Jr. and Appomattox Commonwealth’s Attorney Darrel Puckett.
Peake is vying to fill the vacant District 22 Senate seat as a result of Garrett’s election to Congress in November.
Democrat Ryant Washington, of Fluvanna, and independent Joe Hines, of Rice, are also running for the seat, which will be decided in a special election Tuesday.
“I have known Mark Peake for many years,” Abbitt said. “Mark has been a staunch supporter of Republican candidates and ideals for decades.”
Peake, Washington and Hines will appear at a candidates’ forum on Wednesday at 7 p.m. at Johns Auditorium at Hampden-Sydney College.
