Here’s wishing each of you a very Merry Christmas!

Appomattox PE Presbyterian Church at Tuggle will have worship service on Sunday at 11 a.m., there will be a fellowship breakfast before the 11 a.m. service, but no Sunday School.

Davis Memorial Presbyterian Church at Prospect will hold a Candlelight service Saturday at 7 p.m. The membership invites you to the service. There will be no services on Sunday.

The Longwood Garden Club held its Christmas Social at the home of Pam and Southard Brumfield. Jane Hines was co-hostess. Shirley Blackwell was recognized for her service to the club.

The Prospect Happy Hats held their Christmas Party at Merk’s Place on Thursday, Dec. 15, at 2 p.m. There were 14 in attendance: Hilda Allen, Doris Bellofatto, Jean Covington, Sue Case, Betty Meadows, Ann Norton, Rita Rountree, Carol Schall, Pat Smith, Margaret Stockton, Betty Sumner, Jeannette Tarlton, Elsie Wilson and Dolly Worthy.

Sean Stockton started celebrating his birthday on Wednesday, Dec. 14., with his grandparents, Richard and Margaret Stockton. They traveled to Lynchburg to have lunch at Five Guys and then they continued to Western Ways where Sean picked out a pair of boots. Then, on the way home, they had supper at Merk’s Place. This concluded the first day of celebration. On his birthday, Saturday, Dec. 17, he finished up celebrating by having supper with his parents, Lon and Mary Jo Stockton; his grandparents, Richard and Margaret Stockton; and a good friend at Merk’s Place. There was a beautiful cake make by Dennis Merkle Sr. The theme for the cake was “Undertale.” Earlier in the week, he had received gifts from his grandparents, Eric and Pat Creaney of Scotland.

Mr. and Mrs. Jeff Smith hosted an early Christmas gathering at their home on Sunday. Family members attending were Pat’s father, John Keaveny, and her brother, Kevin Keaveny, and his wife, Heather, all of Unionville. The Smith’s daughter, Emma Sharpe, and her son, Jeffrey, traveled from Hopewell and their son and his family, Charles and Dianna Smith and their children, Christina, Charles Jr. and Brianna and her friend, Josh, all arrived from Keysville. The family members exchanged gifts prior to enjoying their Sunday dinner together. 

On Monday evening, Mr. and Mrs. Jeff Smith hosted the monthly covered dish dinner for the small group from Faith Bible Fellowship. Attending were Hilde Watson, Mr. and Mrs. John Utzinger and Mr. and Mrs. Richard McClintock.

On Friday, Dec. 16, Vincent and Betsy Faraci held their annual open house for friends and neighbors.

The United Daughters of the Confederacy Farmville Chapter No. 45 met on Wednesday the 14 at Merk’s Place for their Christmas dinner with nine members and one guest present. Those attending were Susan Reynolds and husband, Wayne; Frances Giles; Kathryn Powell; Deborah Lundeen; Flora Bolt; Angie Coppedge; Ann Beckham; and Lynne Pridgen. They all enjoyed lunch, fellowship and pictures. The chapter will meet again in March. Later, Flora Bolt visited Ruth Easter and daughter, Rose. Flora took a gift to Rose from the UDC ladies. Ruth and Rose are both members, but because of health reasons could not attend. The ladies sent best wishes.

Friends and neighbors are praying for a speedy recovery for: Dale Tatum, Joyce C. Floyd, Ray George, Gary Fiscus, Jean P. Derrenbacker, Gail George, Elfrieda Kerns, Betty Jean Bolt and Mildred Harvey Shanks.

The membership of Davis Memorial Presbyterian Church at Prospect invites you to come and worship with them every Sunday; Sunday school is at 10 a.m. with worship at 11 a.m. The Rev. Caitlin Hoy will be at Davis Memorial on Sunday.

Calvary Chapel-Farmville, 302 Inustrial Park Road, invites you to worship with them on Sunday mornings at 10:30 a.m. They invite you to join them each week on Wednesday evening for Bible Study for all age groups at 7 p.m. The church is in the former Stackpole-Carbone building.
