The Fuqua School varsity girls volleyball team had two 2016 All-Blue Ridge Conference selections this season, led by Ellie Vick, who was named to the first team.
“Ellie was a second team all-conference and all-tournament player last year and worked really hard in the offseason to improve her game,” Lady Falcons Head Coach Matthew Houchins said. “She is a six-rotation player for us who is skilled at every phase of the game. She was one of our go-to hitters and team leaders in kills and aces, as well as being one of our main defenders and passers.”
Vick finished the season with 166 kills, 63 aces and 115 digs, putting her near the top of the conference in those categories.
Fuqua’s Regan Ware was named to the all-conference second team.
“Last year as a freshman, Regan was named first team all-conference and, in my opinion, should have been a first-team selection this year as well,” Houchins said. “She recovered from an elbow surgery in the offseason and continued to expand her skill set this year by playing all six rotations for us.”
Though only a sophomore, she finished the season with 164 kills, 48 aces and 112 digs.
Sydney Stewart was named to the Blue Ridge Conference all-tournament team.
The Lady Falcons, which finished 10-9 for the season and 7-3 in the conference, lost in the semifinals of the conference tourney in a highly-competitive four-set match with top-seeded North Cross School.
