Forty-three Cumberland High School (CHS) seniors each received an academic jacket during a ceremony Nov. 22 in the CHS gym. The seniors received the jackets for maintaining a cumulative 3.0 GPA during high school. Parents and family members of the recipients were invited to attend.
The ceremony began with the entrance of the recipients, followed by the presentation of the colors by the JROTC Color Guard. Jacob Dunagan sang the National Anthem and Nicholas Abbott gave the welcome. CHS Principal Jeffrey Scales presented the jackets to the recipients as Assistant Principal Cora Tolliver read out the names. Guidance counselor Maribeth Ewing, guidance secretary Marie Hopper and CHS secretary and event planner Karen Langhorne assisted Scales and Tolliver.
At the conclusion of the ceremony, Scales made closing remarks. Parents, guests and recipients enjoyed a reception with light refreshments served in the cafetorium. Refreshments were prepared and served by the culinary arts students, under the direction of teacher Margaret Dawson.
