Scott leads Eagles honorees

The Prince Edward County High School varsity football team that qualified for the playoffs and finished the year with a 5-6 record was represented by four first-team All-Conference 34 selections this year and two on the second team.
“I was proud of the guys,” Eagles Head Coach James Ford said. “Their recognition is just indicative of the work they put in.”
Senior Brandon “Tray” Scott made the first team as both a running back and a return specialist.
“That was a pleasant surprise,” Ford said.
Scott had an impressive 495 kick return yards with one touchdown, averaging 37 yards a return, so the specialist honor was not a surprise to Ford, but the running back accolade was.
“The first four or five games of the year, he toted the ball minimally,” the coach said. “Halfway through the Goochland (High School) game, he became the primary tailback and literally ran with it.”
Scott gained 804 yards and 12 touchdowns on the ground this year. He was dynamic as a receiver, as well, gaining 271 yards and three scores.
This was his first year receiving all-conference first-team recognition, something also true for seniors Rajai Walton and Bryan Moses.
Walton received the honor as a defensive back, establishing his reputation at the strong safety position that Ford observed among his coaching peers at the all-conference voting meeting.
“As soon as I started talking about him, they recognized him right away,” Ford said.
Walton had 102 total tackles and two interceptions, eight pass break-ups and six forced fumbles.
Making the first-team cut as a wide receiver was Moses, who recorded 33 catches for 748 yards and seven touchdowns.
“Bryan was the best receiver in the district,” Ford said. “We got him the ball in screen and deep and also in short timing routes and he was able to make an impact in every game he played.”
Eagles senior linebacker Markeem Trent and senior defensive end D’Andre Bowler made the all-conference second team.
