Meteor-counting competition at Staunton River
Published 10:22 am Wednesday, November 23, 2016
People of all ages are invited to Staunton River State Park from 9-11 p.m. on Dec. 10 to see who can count the most meteors.
After checking in at the park’s visitor center, visitors will be afforded the opportunity to ask park staff and professional astronomers questions before venturing onto the observation field to view the annual Geminid meteor shower.
The Geminid meteors are bright and move slowly, so they are easily observable for amateur astronomers.
Visitors are advised to dress warmly and to bring a blanket or sleeping bag to lay on so they can comfortably compete to be this year’s top meteor counter.
There is no extra event fee for this opportunity.
