It’s Small Business Saturday

Saturday is Small Business Saturday across the country and right here in Farmville.

The Farmville Area Chamber of Commerce is promoting all the chamber member businesses that have told them about their Small Business Saturday specials.

Saturday — the day after “Black Friday,” when many national chains offer post-Thanksgiving sales for holiday gift buying — is being set aside to get people to shop in locally owned and operated stores.

“We are doing a special,” Chamber Executive Director Joy Stump said. “We are giving out three $50 gift cards. The first will go to the person who spends the most money at a chamber business. The second will go to the person who shops at the most chamber businesses, and the third will be randomly drawn.”

Stump said shoppers need to keep their receipts — even by taking a picture on their cell phone — and email them to admin@farmvilleareachamber.org.

The chamber is maintaining a Facebook event page for Small Business Saturday. Some of the posts reveal several promotions. For example, Red Door 104 LLC is having an art sale with a “last chance to purchase beautiful photography, acrylic, oil and watercolor depictions of Farmville” by local artists and photographers who submitted pieces for the “Familiar with Farmville” contest earlier this fall. The show will close Nov. 30 and Red Door is asking folks to end the show with sales from the artists. The store will be open from 10 a.m.-5 p.m. Saturday.

Meanwhile, Beauty & Fashion and Beauty Mart are offering 10-15 percent off nursing scrubs, Dansko, clogs and wigs at both their stores. They will also have a lot of suits, shirts, jackets, jewelry and hair accessories for sale.

Back on the art side of things, Mainly Clay will be open from 10 a.m.-5 p.m. Saturday.

“We do not have a class that day,” store owners said on Facebook, “but (we do) have one scheduled for Nov. 27 — Make a Chip and Dip Set.”

The cost of the class is $35, includes materials, and will take place from 1-3:30 p.m. on Sunday. To register, stop by the store on Saturday or call (434) 315-5715.

Even The Farmville Herald is participating in Small Business Saturday. For that one day, the paper is offering annual subscriptions for $27 instead of the normal $36. Current subscribers can add an additional year at the special rate. The offer is only good for mail delivery in Buckingham, Cumberland and Prince Edward counties. The offer can only be redeemed by ordering online at www.FarmvilleHerald.com.
