Coaches’ game notes: The Eagles can remove any doubt of their standing as a playoff team with a victory Friday. With the top 16 teams in the region qualifying for the postseason, they are currently the No. 11 seed, and they cannot move up beyond that. This means they won’t be hosting a first-round playoff game, but they are not at the bottom of the pack either.

It is important that they set the right tone Friday against a dangerous Knights team that runs to the ball, blocks and tackles well.

Senior Ky’Aire Chambers will be in at quarterback for the Knights, who will seek to limit Eagles seniors Brandon Scott and Bryan Moses.

BROADWATER (2-7) AT FUQUA (5-3)

Kickoff: 7 p.m.

Last season: Broadwater 33, Fuqua 27

Coach’s game notes: The Falcons are in the Virginia Independent Schools Athletic Association Division III playoffs and can wrap up the No. 3 seed with a win Friday night. Securing this seed would send the Falcons on the road to face No. 2 Roanoke Catholic School in the state semifinals, giving them an opportunity to avenge their 54-11 loss earlier this season to the Celtics.

But to set this up, the Falcons must defeat a well-coached Vikings team that has a balanced offensive attack and can be explosive in securing and reaching the edge of the line.

CENTRAL LUNENBURG (7-2) AT CUMBERLAND (1-8)

Kickoff: 7 p.m.

Last season: Central 48, Cumberland 14

Coach’s game notes: The Dukes close out their 2016 season against probably the best team on their schedule that could go deep in the Group 1A playoffs.

The well-coached Chargers feature an aggressive defense, a good offensive line, a couple of good running backs and a good quarterback. Defending well against them involves hitting all the gaps.

The Dukes will continue to try to run the ball on offense, force some turnovers on defense and rally for Senior Night. They will be getting some key seniors back from injury, including center Tyruss Sims, running back Jamie Trent and defensive lineman Jaylen Gilliam.
