The Church and Community Events calendar is published each Friday. Items must be submitted by 10 a.m. Monday for that Friday’s calendar. Events should be emailed to communitycalendar@farmvilleherald.com.

FREE THANKSGIVING MEALS, 11 a.m.-1p.m. at the Farmville Train Station, 510 W. Third St., Farmville. Sponsored by the The VA Smoove Rydaz MC/SC and PIedmont Community Supporters. Anyone in need of a hot Thanksgiving meal may pick one up. Meals will also be delivered to the elderly as well as the sick and shut-in. PRE-THANKSGIVING DAY SERVICE, 7 p.m. at Mt. Moriah Upper Room Baptist Church, 1913 Tuggle Road. The Rev. Frank Lacey, pastor of Riverside Community Church in Farmville, will bring the Thanksgiving message. The Rev. Stanley Wesley, pastor, invites the public.

PRE-THANKSGIVING DAY SERVICE, 7 p.m. at Triumph Baptist Church, Darlington Heights Road, Prince Edward County. The Rev. Dr. Maurice Finney, pastor of St. Andrews Baptist Church, will be the guest preacher, accompanied by a choir. Everyone is invited.

NOVEMBER 24

THANKSGIVING TURKEY GIVEAWAY, 11 a.m.-1 p.m. at Dominion Worship Center, 706 East Virginia Avenue, Crewe. The center invites the community to come eat and enjoy fellowship at the Thanksgiving Community Luncheon  at Blackstone Primary School in Blackstone. The event is sponsored by Faith Based Community of Blackstone and Crewe.

NOVEMBER 27

CANCELLED – USHER’S ANNIVERSARY, at Jericho Baptist Church (formerly known as Race Street Church). Due to ongoing renovations to the church.

DECEMBER 1

FARMVILLE GRIEF SUPPORT GROUP, 5:30 pm. at  Farmville United Methodist Church, 212 High St. The group is free and open to anyone in the community who is grieving the loss of a loved one. If interested, please contact facilitator Amanda Hayes-Bowman at ahayes-bowman@newcenturyhospice.com or (434) 395-1042.

DECEMBER 2

WORKSHOP, at Longwood’s Environmental Education Center, Lancer Park at the end of Cormier Drive, Farmville, on farm energy management practices and technologies. This event will feature Dennis Brothers, of Auburn University’s National Poultry Education Center. Brothers will present information on LED lighting and best practices for generator maintenance. The content will be oriented toward poultry farms. The session will also feature representatives from the USDA, and a technical service provider discussing USDA farm energy programs. DECEMBER 6

LIONS CLUB OF FARMVILLE MEETING, noon-1 p.m. at the Woodland Community Center on Cobb Street. The featured guest speaker will be Dr. Bradley W. Kesser, a professor of otolaryngology, head and neck surgery, of the University of Virginia Hospital. Kesser specializes in congenital ear disease, hearing loss, dizziness and balance disorders, and other related conditions. He has also served on the board for the Virginia Lions Hearing Foundation in Charlottesville.

DECEMBER 7

MEET AND GREET, 6 p.m. at Fitzgerald Memorial Baptist Church, 14 Fitzgerald Road., Cumberland.

DECEMBER 9-18

CHRISTMAS LIGHTS, will take place Dec. 9-11 and Dec. 16-18 from 5-8 p.m. at Bear Creek Lake State Park. Cost of admission is a donated toy. Pancake dinner with Santa will be at 5 p.m. on Dec. 11. These events are part of the Cumberland Christmas Mother campaign.

DECEMBER 10

AGENT ORANGE SYMPOSIUM FOR VIETNAM ERA VETERANS, 1-4 p.m. at the STEPS building in Farmville, 225 Industrial Park Road. There will be special guest speakers, and Vietnam War veterans and their families will be invited to participate in an open forum about the health effects they’ve experienced because of wartime exposure to Agent Orange. There will be light refreshments and some break out sessions to meet with various agencies who can assist with educational information to include veteran service officers. Elected officials or their representatives are invited to attend. Anyone with recommendations of local Vietnam veterans to contact to speak or any business, individual, church group, civic/community, non-profit organization who wishes to donate a dessert item (cookies, cupcakes) and/or soft drinks/bottled water or to participate in any manner at the event are asked to contact Piedmont Area Veterans Council and Community Resources at pavc23901@aol.com.
