Longwood University is hosting the one and only Vice Presidential Debate 2016 tonight and many will naturally ask: Where is Longwood University?
Longwood is a public institution in central Virginia – it calls Farmville, Virginia home.
With 5,096 students (4,574 undergrad/522 graduate), Longwood University students come from 25 states and 20 countries. Almost 70 percent of Longwood University students are female (68 percent).
Here is more about how Longwood University (and Farmville) landed the 2016 VP Debate.
Farmville is home to both Longwood University and Hampden-Sydney College.
Known for its charming downtown, Farmville offers a one-of-a-kind shopping experience with furniture-packed, renovated tobacco warehouses.
According to visitfarmville.com, “The area is also great for history buffs and outdoor enthusiasts. High Bridge Trail State Park and Sailor’s Creek Battlefield Historical State Park commemorate two of the final battles of the Civil War. The R.R. Moton Museum tells the story of a 1951 student strike that helped ignite the Civil Rights era. And the many nearby lakes, rivers, trails and state parks beckon lovers of outdoor fun and adventure.
And Farmville is still making history. On October 4, all eyes will be on Longwood University as it hosts the 2016 Vice Presidential Debate.
Farmville is centrally located in Virginia, just …
- 65 miles west of Richmond
- 48 miles east of Lynchburg
- 70 miles south of Charlottesville
- 150 miles from Washington, D.C. and Virginia Beach”
