A 29-year-old Chase City man is charged with robbery following a reported altercation Oct. 19 in the 400 block of Winston Street in Farmville.
According to police, Dexter T. McPleasant also faces charges of assault and battery, petit larceny and property damage following the incident, involving an ex-girlfriend.
The call was first reported as an assault, police said in a press release.
“The victim reported that, during an argument, McPleasant punched her in the face, knocking her to the ground. The victim further advised that a struggle ensued for the victim’s cellphone. McPleasant was able to take the cellphone by force, removing $100 in cash from the cell phone case, then breaking the phone and throwing it into the woods.”
Police say McPleasant fled the scene prior to the arrival of police.
“During the altercation, the victim sustained minor injuries including redness and bruising under her left eye and a bloody lip,” police said.
McPleasant was eventually taken into custody by the Chase City Police Department on Monday.
