Former Longwood University shortstop and four-time All-Big South selection Emily Murphy has joined the Lancer softball coaching staff as an assistant coach, two-time Big South Coach of the Year Kathy Riley announced.
A native of Virginia Beach, Murphy will work primarily with the middle infielders and assist with hitting instruction. With the addition of Murphy to the coaching staff, Longwood becomes the sixth member of the conference to have three coaches.
A 2016 graduate of Longwood, Murphy led the blue and white to three Big South Championships to go along with two regular season crowns and three appearances in the NCAA Tournament. Murphy helped Longwood win three games in the NCAA Tournament throughout her career, including victories over ACC foes North Carolina and Virginia Tech. She was part of the winningest class in program history.
