High Bridge Trail State Park presents a guided tour of the Prince Edward County shore of the Appomattox River below the soaring spectacle of High Bridge above on Saturday, Oct. 15.
Those on the tour will start their journey at Camp Paradise Access and meet the tour guide on High Bridge Trail near the cleared Confederate fort. Descending into the river valley, they will hear how local people participated in constructing one of the greatest bridges of all history up to that time in the 1850s and then repeated the feat in 1914.
The tour will highlight the remarkable scale and scope of High Bridge from the bottom up. The total round trip distance of the journey will be around 1.5 miles.
Closed toe shoes and plenty of water are a must. Long pants are recommended. Participants are advised to treat clothes and hat with bug spray.
Part of the trail will be steep.
The tour will run 1:30-3:30 p.m. There is no extra event fee, and children are welcome.
