A three-alarm fire destroyed a trailer home on Ranson Road north of Dillwyn on Thursday morning. According to Dillwyn Volunteer Fire Department Chief Jason Wharam, the fire was reported at about 7:55 a.m. No one was home at the time of the fire.
“It was pretty much fully involved,” he said of what the first volunteers on scene observed. “A lot of it didn’t burn, but it was through the roof when we got there.”
Volunteers from Glenmore and Arvonia volunteer fire departments, along with those from Dillwyn, responded.
Two people lived in the home, Wharam said.
Though the cause of the fire remains under investigation, Wharam said there’s no reason for suspicion.
Wharam said the fire appears to have started in the home’s utility room.
Fire departments were on scene for more than an hour, he said.
Wharam emphasized that homeowners and residents should have working smoke detectors in their homes.
