DRACO THE DRAGON, 8-10 p.m. at the Clover Visitor Center. Enjoy a relaxing night and watch the meteor shower and hear the tale of Draco the Dragon.

SPAGHETTI DINNER AND SOCIAL, 5-7 p.m. at Cartersville Volunteer Rescue Squad. Live music by Tommy Tipton & Friends. Menu will consist of salad, garlic bread, spaghetti, dessert and drink. The cost to eat is donations to benefit the rescue squad. For more information, call (804) 375-3399.

DRACONID METEOR SHOWER, 7 p.m. at High Bridge to view the Draconid meteor shower — sometimes called the Giacobinids — radiating from the fiery mouth of the northern constellation Draco the Dragon. This year, the peak date will probably be on the evening of Oct. 7, starting at nightfall. The event will end at 9:30 p.m. and parking fees apply. BRUNSWICK STEW SALE, 11 a.m.-until at The Irving’s Place, 6413 Abiline Road, Farmville. Sponsored by Douglas Presbyterian Church. $8 a quart, with proceeds benefitting various mission projects.

CHURCH LEADER WORKSHOP, at Macedonia Baptist Church, Rice will sponsor the workshop. Pastor Earl Walker of Fourth Mt. Zion Baptist, Crewe, will be the instructor and the workshop will be held at Calvary Baptist Church, Sandy River Rd., Burkeville. All are welcome.

PASTOR’S ANNIVERSARY, Sharon Baptist Church will celebrate their Pastor, The Rev. Robert Jones 17th anniversary. The Rev. Silas Blanton, Associate Minister of Sharon Baptist, will preach the service. Dinner will be served. At 3 p.m., The Rev. Lee Watkins, Pastor of Cornerstone Baptist Church, will be the guest speaker. His choir, ushers and members will accompany him. All are welcome.

HARVEST FESTIVAL, 12:30 p.m. at Cedar Baptist Church, 3932 Bell Rd., Dillwyn. Hot dogs, soups, desserts, and fun and games for all ages, including a cakewalk. Please join us for fun and fellowship.

MEN AND WOMEN’S DAY, 3 p.m. at Old Green Creek Baptist Church of Farmville. The theme is Man and Woman in God’s Own Image. The Rev. Timothy Woodson of Bethlehem Baptist Church will preach the word accompanied by his choir. Man and Woman of the Year will be recognized. Everyone is welcome.

MEN’S CHORUS 8TH ANNIVERSARY, 3 p.m. at New Bethel Baptist Church, 14167 Farmville Road, Meherrin. Special Guests will be Regeneration from Central. All are welcome and dinner will be served.

GUEST PREACHER, New Witt Baptist Church, Farmville Highway, Farmville, will have the Rev. Malvin Eanes of Zion Hill Baptist Church delivering the message for the worship service at 11 a.m. Music will be rendered by the New Witt Senior Choir.

MALE CHORUS ANNIVERSARY, 3 p.m. at New Witt Baptist Church on Farmville Highway. Guest musical groups include New Beginnings, Springfield Travelers, Matthew Twenty Five and Peake’s Male Chorus. The Rev. Winston Bland is pastor. Everyone is welcome.

MISSIONARY DAY SERVICE, 3 p.m., the Missionary Ministry of Mercy Seat Baptist Church. Guest speaker will be Evangelist Lillian Johnson. The Combined Choir of Sulphur Springs Baptist Church will be the musical guest. The public is welcome.

SENIOR CITIZENS APPRECIATION PROGRAM, 3 p.m. at Mt. Moriah Upper Room Baptist Church, 1913 Tuggle Road. The church will show appreciation to all seniors 55 and older. Minister Richard Goode will bring enlightening words to all. There will be gifts for all senior citizens. Everyone is invited. The Rev. Stanley Wesley is pastor.

ANNUAL DEACON’S DAY SERVICE, 3 p.m. at Gravel Hill Baptist Church in Jetersville. This year’s theme is “God is a Good God.” Speakers will be Deacon Arthur Townsend, Lone Oak Baptist Church, Keysville; Deacon Bernette Wilson, Little Mount Baptist Church, Blackstone and Deacon Michael Hill of Gravel Hill Baptist. The worship leader will be Deacon William Day of Tabernacle Baptist Church, Chesterfield. Musical guest will be the Chester Grove Baptist Church Choir of Amelia. Refreshments will served after the service. All are invited to attend.

OCTOBER 11

DAR MEETING, 7 p.m. at the Farmville-Prince Edward Community Library, 1303 W. Third St., Farmville. Hosted by the Judith Randolph-Longwood Chapter of the National Society Daughters of the American Revolution. The guest speaker will be Bob Flippen, education specialist for High Bridge State Park. Topic: “John Stanley James: The Vagabond and Nationalism.”
