- Mayor David Whitus officially proclaims Sept. 11 as Valor Day in the town of Farmville. Whitus said he encourages all Virginians to take time out of their day to show first responders and their families how much we appreciate and value their services. Gathered for the signing are, from left, Jenny McIntosh, Chi Alpha Director; Pastor Bill McIntosh, Pastor of New Life Church; town council member and New Life Church member Jamie Davis; Town Manager Gerry Spates; and Lisa Tharpe, Valor Day Co-Chair.
The community is invited to a special Valor Day Service on Sunday Sept. 11 at 10:30 a.m. at New Life Church, 9 Mahan Road, in Farmville. Gen. Jerry Boykin will be the guest speaker for the day.
All area fire, rescue, police and military are invited and will be honored at the patriotic service. A free lunch will also be served to these “Hometown Heroes” and their immediate family after the service, in the New Life Gymnasium.
Local restaurants, businesses, and volunteers have helped make this event possible. Gift bags have been created for our first responders and military filled with lots of items from area businesses, as a gift of appreciation for all they do daily to protect and serve our community.
