Two men recently received sentences of two months each in jail in connection with an alleged robbery of Prospect Convenience Store in February on Route 460.

Authorities originally charged Haroun McLaughlin, 27, of Pamplin, with robbery and grand larceny; and Mykeam Tramann Robinson, 22, with robbery and conspiracy to commit robbery.

“There were many evidentiary concerns, conflicting and inconsistent versions of what took place. As such, both individuals were convicted of petit larceny,” said Prince Edward Commonwealth’s Attorney Megan Clark.

According to Clark, the two received 12 months of incarceration with 10 months suspended on the conditions of good behavior for 12 months, $250 restitution to the Virginia Lottery, $310 restitution to Prospect Convenient Mart, no contact with the owners of the store and not trespassing on store property.

Maj. David Wilmoth of the Prince Edward County Sheriff’s Office previously told The Herald Robinson told the store cashier he had a weapon, but didn’t display it.

Wilmoth said that, according to police, McLaughlin and Robinson reportedly stole an undisclosed amount of cash and lottery tickets.

The incident was reported shortly after a tornado hit Evergreen in Appomattox County, knocking out electricity to the store, Wilmoth said.

“(Robinson) indicated he had a weapon, (but) no weapon was displayed,” he said.
