Lighting of the Lake

Twin Lakes State Park will be hosting its third annual Lighting of the Lake ceremony Saturday, in honor of the National Day of Service and Remembrance. It is an event to show the park’s appreciation to the community’s service members, first responders, and the brave men and women who lost their lives on Sept. 11. The event will be sponsored by the Friends of Twin Lakes State Park.

The Lighting of the Lake event will begin at 6 p.m. with the decoration of the lanterns. Guests are encouraged to draw memories or messages on the lanterns. At 7 p.m., the Heart of Virginia Community Band will perform music about the American spirit. Afterwards, there will be a flag ceremony performed by local Boy Scout troop 6596 as well as an address by special guest speaker Lt. Tyler Adkinson of the Farmville Volunteer Fire Department. The event will end with the lanterns being lit and released onto Goodwin Lake. Lanterns will be provided to guests for a donation to the Friends of Twin Lakes State Park.
