Friends gather in many places

The Prospect Historical Society will have a drawing to give away an 8×12 shed by Buggy Top Sheds in Cumberland, $50 gas card or $25 cash. For a chance to win, get in touch with a Prospect Historical Society member or go by Merk’s Place, Poulston’s or Amish Originals. The drawing will take place the first Tuesday in September. Peggy Kelsey and Darrell Shumaker were guests at a dinner party for Stuart Lyster from Charlottesville on Tuesday evening. He will be attending Louisiana State University in Baton Rouge, La., in the fall. He is the grandson of Polly Simpson Duncan.

Mr. and Mrs. Jeff Smith hosted the monthly covered dish for the Faith Bible Fellowship small group at their home Monday evening. Attending were Mrs. Hilde Watson and Mr. and Mrs. Richard McClintock.

Mr. and Mrs. Donald Meadows spent Wednesday in Richmond visiting with son-in-law Andy Shotwell and grandchildren, Josh and Kate. On the way home, they stopped by the new Wegman’s grocery on Broad Street and shopped.

Frances Anderson celebrated her birthday for several days last week. On Friday, Aug. 12, her birthday, Mrs. Agnes Loveday and sister, Mildred, took Frances to Walker’s Diner for lunch and that night, Mrs. Flora Bolt treated her to supper at Merk’s Place.

On Saturday night, Mrs. Flora Bolt took Frances to a surprise birthday party held at the Church of Christ and given by her daughter, Paula, and son in-law, Bob Card. There was a BBQ dinner and a large crowd; following the meal, they saw the movie “Miracles from Heaven.”

Sunday, Aug. 14, following church, Mrs. Judy Bolt and son, Chris, had some of the Bolt family in for lunch: Jennifer Page Bolt; Mrs. Flora Bolt; Steve Bolt; and granddaughters, Haley and Payden Murdock, and their friends, Riley and MacKenzie Fulcher. The Fulcher girls spent the weekend with Haley and Payden.

Friends and neighbors are praying for a speedy recovery for: Jean P. Derrenbacker, Gail George, Elfrieda Kerns, Betty Jean Bolt and Mildred Harvey Shanks.

Harlan Austin will be at Appomattox P.E. Presbyterian church on Sunday. They welcome Terri Kidd as guest pianist.

The membership of Davis Memorial Presbyterian Church at Prospect invites you to come and worship with them every Sunday. Sunday school is at 10 a.m. with worship at 11 a.m. The Rev. Catilian Hoy will be at Davis Memorial on Sunday.

Calvary Chapel-Farmville invites you to worship with them on Sundays at 10:30 a.m. They invite you to join them each week on Wednesday for Bible Study for all age groups at 7 p.m. 

Grace Chapel, on Simpson Road at Tuggle, invites you to worship with them each Sunday at 10:30 a.m. and on Wednesdays at 6:30 p.m. for youth and adult Bible study.

Prospect United Methodist Church will host a free CPR class on Sunday, Sept. 11, 2-4 p.m. The Prospect Charge and the community are invited. Nurses from Centra Lynchburg General Hospital will conduct the class. This is not a CPR certification class, but you will get a participation card.
