The Farmville Downtown Partnership has launched the Players on the Plaza, a new concert series that features musicians performing at the High Bridge Trail Plaza in downtown Farmville. Performances will be on the first Saturday of the month from 11 a.m.-2 p.m.

On Saturday, shoppers can listen to Farmville’s Powers & Brown as they perform a variety of bluegrass, classic country and Celtic music, according to a news release.

This energetic duo has most recently played at James River Brewery in Scottsville, Uptown Coffee in Farmville and Benjamin’s in Lynchburg. Rain date for the performance is July 16.

The third installment of Players on the Plaza will be Aug. 6 and will feature the modern jazz stylings of Marcus Pendergrass and Sabrina Brown. Rain date for this performance is Aug. 13. The September performer will be announced soon.

Guitarist Joel Worford kicked off Players on the Plaza on June 4 with his covers of rock and blues classics along with original works. “The idea was to create a low-key event for those who shop downtown on the weekends” says Chuck Ross, volunteer coordinator for Players on the Plaza. “We’re hoping to build a new weekend vibe at the Plaza that people can enjoy when they visit and shop in Farmville.”

Whether shopping at Green Front, viewing an exhibition at J. Fergeson Gallery, or enjoying a meal at Uptown Coffee or Charleys Waterfront Cafe, Players on the Plaza is a welcome addition to the energetic atmosphere of downtown Farmville, the release stated.
