Under the bridge tours offered

Meet Ranger Bob Flippen on the east end of High Bridge near the fort and at the intersection with Camp Paradise Trail on Sunday for a trek beneath High Bridge to see the piers that supported the original High Bridge and the steel towers for the current bridge. There will be two tours, at 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. Hear about how both bridges were constructed and how long it took to build them with the tools available at the time. Participants may wander along the banks of the Appomattox River and explore the new green area visitors can now enjoy. Exit by continuing along Camp Paradise Trail emerging at the fort near the main Trail. Total distance is about one mile and last about one hour. Although this is a family event, the trail is not suitable for strollers. Wear appropriate footwear (no open toe shoes.) Water, bug spray and cameras are highly recommended.
