Buckingham Baptist, 24234 North James Madison Highway in New Canton, presents “Submerged, an expedition into God’s love” as the theme for its Bible School beginning Sunday, 5-6 p.m. preceded by pre-registration and ice cream social.

Bible School (for ages 4-12) will be held from June 6-10 from 5:45-8:30 p.m. with a Friday night picnic.

The Glenmore Volunteer Fire Department has announced its next chicken barbecue fundraiser on Sunday, June 12, at 179 Fire House Road, Buckingham.

Dinners are $10 per plate and include half a chicken, bread, two sides, a drink and dessert. Orders may be called in only on Sunday from 9-11 a.m. to (434) 969-2317 and available for pick up after noon.

The June potluck dinner of the Curdsville Community Center will be Monday at 6:30 p.m. Everyone is welcome to bring a favorite dish or dessert and to hear a presentation by historian, Bob Flippin. The Center is located nine miles south of Sprouse’s Corner, off U.S. Route 15, on Route 633, School Road.

June 5-12 is National Garden Week. The Buckingham Dillwyn Garden Club will be celebrating with a display at the Buckingham County Public Library with information on the club, past and present projects, and its affiliation with the Virginia Federation of Garden Clubs and the National Garden Club. The annual picnic will be held at Ellis Acres Memorial Park at noon on Monday, June 13. The public is welcome to join the celebration and see the club’s native tree identification project and to view the garden beds maintained by the Buckingham Active Seniors and Girl Scouts. Winners of the May Buckingham County Arts Center Annual Art Show have been announced: Oil/Acrylic — First-place prizes went to Sandy Bruton, Frederick Gamage and Margy King. Second-place ribbons went to Elizabeth Jones and Sunny Lenz. Third-place winners were Sue Miles, Margy King and Sunny Lenz. Irving Poole won first place in drawing with second place going to Brenda Absher. Leah Olivier won first place in the graphic category. First-place winner in photography was Karla Ellington, with Shirley Blackwell winning second and third-place prizes. Prizes in the watercolor category were: first place for Ursula Burgess, second place to Pat Howe and third place to Zanie Jamerson. Winners in the other media category were: first place: Leah Olivier; second place: Elizabeth Jones; third place: Ursula Burgess. Fiber arts prizes went to: first place: Vincente Morin; second place: Grace Barlow; third place: Brenda Absher. Sculpture first place went to: Henry Hagenau with second place and third place going to Margy King. In Jewelry, Leah Olivier won first- and third-place ribbons, with second place going to Brenda Absher. First- and third-place prizes for Furniture went to Hagenau, with Ramon Stafford winning second place. First- and second-place ribbons went to Frederick Gamage for Pastels.

Participating artists may pick up their work June 13 and 14 from 1-6 p.m. at the art center.
