Kids to Parks Day
On Saturday the Visitor Center at Sailor’s Creek Battlefield Historical State Park, in conjunction with the national “Kids to Parks Day” initiative, will be hosting an introductory class for our “School of the American Civil War Soldier” program.
Occurring hourly from 10 a.m.-3 p.m. “recruits,” led by Education Specialist Zach Pittard, will be assigned a wooden musket and put through the paces of 19th-century soldiering: marching, drilling, inspection, battle formations and camp life.
The “Kids to Parks Day” program is a free, family-friendly event recommended for ages 5 and up. Contact the park’s visitor center at (804) 561-7510, or email sailorscreek@dcr.virginia.gov for more information.
