In a rematch of last week’s season finale, No. 6 seed Longwood University lost 14-5 to the No. 3-seeded Campbell University women’s lacrosse team Saturday at Barker-Lane Stadium in Buies Creek, N.C., in the Big South quarterfinals.
Campbell senior Loren Day, who was named Big South Offensive Player of the Year, added four assists to go along with her three goals to help the Camels (10-8) erase an early two goal first-half deficit. The Campbell win ends Longwood’s (8-10) five-game win streak in the series dating back to when the series began in 2013.
Scoring goals for the Lancers were seniors Sarah Butler, Katie McHugh and Lisa Schell, as well as sophomores Madison Stair and Riley Dolan.
McHugh, who entered the game tied for the national points lead, tied with Dolan for a Lancer team-high two points on the day, finished her senior campaign with a single-season program-record 93 points and passed Natalie Smith to become Longwood’s all-time career points leader with 267 points.
